Newsletter September 2021

On behalf of the Executive team, we welcome you to another year of membership in The Kingsway Women’s Club (KWC). Together, we all share another milestone – 86 years strong – stimulating “intellectual and cultural knowledge” and promoting “fellowship”, the global pandemic notwithstanding.

Last year, we offered four (4) presentations via Zoom, after surveying our membership as to their preferences. This challenging pandemic continues with the current fourth wave and the ongoing race of vaccines vs. variants, with no clear indication from the Ministry of Health as to when we might be able to return to in-person meetings at the Markland Wood Golf Club.

Accordingly, your Executive has decided to offer a full programme of seven (7) meetings from October 2021 to April 2022, via Zoom. During this timeframe, if the situation improves and we are permitted to return to Markland, we will do so and membership fees will be adjusted accordingly.

We have an exciting 2021/22 programme to offer you, with thanks to Donna Renzetti, your Programme Coordinator. Past favourites Lianne Harris and Adam Shoalts are returning with Lianne sharing her deep knowledge of Royal history and Adam taking us on his exciting adventure through the Labrador wilderness. Suffice to say, there is something for everyone…you will not want to miss this year’s line up!! Please read the enclosed flyer for the full programme.

As a result, annual membership fees in the amount of $45.00 are now due. The $20.00 increase reflects the increased number of programs and the speakers’ fees. Your membership fee includes seven (7) Zoom presentations, two (2) Newsletters and participation in Groups, such as a Book Club, at no extra cost.  Your cheque, payable to The Kingsway Women’s Club, should be mailed to Jo Shapiro, Treasurer of the club.

Please ensure your cheque is in the mail in time for it to be received by our Treasurer no later than Friday, October 8th. Your payment will confirm your membership.

We have also decided to accommodate member’s guests as follows.  A member’s first guest at a Zoom presentation will be complimentary. For additional guests, a member may purchase, from the Treasurer, “tickets” for $10.00 each permitting three (3) guests to attend a Zoom presentation at any time during our 2021/22 programme. For administrative purposes, at least two (2) days before your guest attends a Zoom presentation, you must advise Anne Heber by email (ann.heber11@gmail.com) of your guest’s email contact information. Please note there will be NO exceptions to this requirement.

The book clubs will continue with the guidance of the following convenors:

Janet Haynes – janethaynes@rogers.com

Karen O’Rourke –  karen.orourke@rogers.com

These two clubs are open to all members and have continued to be an excellent connection in the current environment.

Please check your emails during the week of September 20th. We will be emailing the 2020-2021 “Pandemic” Annual Report to all members. This report not only summarizes the activities and work undertaken in the last year but is more reflective than usual, given the ongoing pandemic.

The KWC Executive thanks you for your ongoing support through these unprecedented times; we hope you will continue to support your KWC with your membership renewal.
